about

well, hello. I'm deryn joy, and I keep a blog like I'm a lonely fourteen-year-old who only has imaginary friends.

in the intervening years, I made some friends and graduated college and got a job and occasionally come back to externally process my thoughts for anyone who also likes to read old dead white dudes (which makes it sound like I'm an old dead white dude). writing it out helps me think about life in new ways, so I keep this in a rather desultory fashion—whenever I get jostled out of the ordinary.

currently, I live in cambridge, massachusetts, which gives me access to the perfect combination of historical buildings, rocky beaches, and crepe spots; and I have never felt closer to the spirit of johnny tremain.

most of what I say is frankly unoriginal, because other people say smarter things better than I do. they are basically all obscure sources that require extensive knowledge and a quirky sense of humor. I don't apologize, but I do feel a vague self-conscious superiority.

and a note on the books. charles dickens is probably my all-time favorite author, and I bring that up a lot; but I can't ever be 100% confident, and I bring that up a lot too. I love classics, but I've recently been reading more from within the past century and more non-fiction because the cover designs are fire I need more perspectives on the world.

dickens still rules tho
